Watercooler: On the Scene with Ghost Hunters Halloween Live

Ghost Hunters Halloween Live Ghost Hunters is going live again tonight for their sixth annual, six-hour Halloween special and it is gonna be a creepshow! This year, the TAPS team is returning to the notorious Pennhurst State School in Spring City, PA, a sprawling abandoned facility that's allegedly haunted by some very unsettled spirits who endured unimaginable stays at the former institution. TV Guide Magazine spent the hours leading up to Mischief Night with the crew as they set up for their All Hallow's Eve hunt to check out the creepy site and deliver to you this report on what we can expect see...or maybe just hear moaning in the dark.Pennhurst's Painful PastBuilt at the turn of the century and shut down in 1986 after a local news affiliate exposed the asylum's atrocities, Pennhurst's myriad sins included everything from overcrowding to doctors ripping patients' teeth out as punishment for unruly behavior. "It seems they put a lot of people in here they didn't know what to do with," says Destination Truth 's Josh Gates, returning for his fifth Halloween hosting gig. "And what's really sad about the property is that you had this weird mix of mentally disabled people, developmentally challenged people and [wards of the state] who just didn't have any education. There were a lot of people here who slipped through the cracks."Speaking of cracks, there are plenty of them after so many years of neglect. "A lot of the buildings are falling in on themselves, there's a ton of water damage, and it's scary," says Gates. "There's a tunnel system that runs beneath all of the buildings...I went down there by myself and it's terrifying."The Live AngleWhile TAPS members strap on their infrared cameras and EVP recorders and head off into the night, viewers will get a front-row seat to any potential scares, thanks to an interactive option during the six-hour broadcast."Syfy.com has a pretty robust presence online, they stream live cameras over the website, people can make comments, there's a chat room, and a 'Panic Button' that viewers can hit if they see something," explains Gates. "That sends a message to the interactive center, where there will be TAPS members talking to people. And those message will direct what's happening, giving the viewers a real interesting control...they're part of the team."During the evening, Gates will report in from the interactive center, as well as the TAPS command center (both located inside one of the more intact buildings), to see what watchers are saying about the investigation, so watch your mouth, kids! The Ghosts "Jay and I chased a shadow in one of the buildings," says Grant Wilson of his and TAPS co-leader Jason Hawes' first go round at Pennhurst, which also netted them a recording of disembodied laughing, while two other team members had a heavy metal shutter slam shut near them and heard voices in one building's main rooms. "There's a lot going on here."Although we never saw anything during our tour of the facility with team members Amy Bruni and Adam Berry, there was a definite air of something permeating the place. Between the dilapidated, windowless playroom known as "Candyland," the random, rotting children's toys left behind after the site's closure, the rusted filing cabinets teeming with ancient medical files, and the lone, old-school wheelchair sitting on its side in one of the cavernous underground tunnels, this is not where you want to find yourself after sundown."It's a real sad place," agrees Bruni. "Terrible, awful things happened here, so we try to be respectful of that." For Berry, the key to scaring up any signs of lingering spirits is showing the respect anyone would expect from uninvited visitors. "You don't want to provoke. The last thing you want to tell someone is 'I'm gonna get you if you don't do this!' because they were told that all the time [as patients]. They're not going to want to communicate with us if they're afraid of us."Still, that doesn't mean all are welcome, even if they have the kindest of intentions. "One of them told us to go home," recalls Bruni. "We heard it out loud. But then at the same time, two of the guys heard laughter, so you have this mix of happy, anger, sadness...you never know. We're dealing with entities that, in life, were mentally disabled, abandoned, and abused...we're not just here for ourselves, or the show. We're also trying to help them."The InvestigationHaving tackled Pennhurst once before, Hawes and Wilson are psyched to be back among the apparitions they've already met. "Obviously this place has given some amazing results for us," says Wilson. "And the owner of the property truly needs more help."To that end, the guys plan to "go in and target the areas the owner has the most concerns about and see if we can come up with some rational explanations," says Hawes, who admits to being more afraid of humans than any possible paranormal activity. "The owners are [usually] the ones that scare us, because you never know who they are or how they are," he laughs. "When you're investigating, you might have frightening moments, but you're going there in search of it, so why let it frighten you?""We've been doing it so long, we now have a good sense of what could happen," continues Wilson, who jokes that the team knows they won't be hunted by a serial killer or "sucked into a TV." In fact, even with the live aspect, this night "is no different from any other investigation. Once we get going, we forget all of the live stuff and do our thing."Plus, they'll have millions of viewers watching their backs online."That's the really cool thing," offers Hawes. "All the fans who tune in are able to see everything that's happening and they'll be experiencing it at the same time. That means everything to us."So are you signing on for a night of hunting with the Ghost Hunters Live? Or do you have other Halloween plans?Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Malin Akerman and Tyler Labine on 'Cottage Country,' Killing Family People and Angry Squirrels

'Bad Teacher' scene-stealer Lucy Punch is shivering within the cold cottage country air as Daniel Petronijevic ('Happy Town') takes are designed for her having a bow and arrow. Tyler Labine ('Rise from the Planet from the Apes') jumps directly into stop the madness, while Malin Akerman ('Watchmen') takes my way through from the safe distance. The 4 funny individuals are filming a scene for 'Cottage Country,' a brand new dark comedy a good eager-to-please yes-guy (Labine) attempting to produce the perfect getaway for themself and the super-hot girlfriend (Akerman). Much to his chagrin, his incredibly annoying brother (Petronijevic) turns up together with his loopy girlfriend (Punch). Determined to not get pressed around any longer, Labine stacks up for themself -- and ends up killing his brother! Amusing antics ensue within this flick, set hitting theaters sooner or later the coming year. The film is occur the summer time, however the fall Ontario weather continues to be not even close to warm. The chilly climate is a particular shock for Akerman, who just finished shooting 'Rock of Ages' in balmy Miami alongside Tom Cruise and Paul Giamatti. Moviefone braved the wind, rain and cold for any day earlier this year to talk with Akerman, Labine and Petronijevic about the reason why you will not wish to miss this crazy little dark comedy. (Brace yourself for Labine's amazing squirrel impression. It's priceless.) The Secrets of Casting

The Secrets of Casting By Michael Lindsay-Hogg October 26, 2011 Why, if you think you've done a good audition, might you not be chosen? It's so hard to stomach that, when you've put yourself on the line. A director always tries to have control of his (or her) production. But there's a but. Which is, unless he (or she)and from now on, let me call everyone "he," because that's what I amhas full creative and contractual control, sometimes there's a sort of horse-trading going on.Let's say there are two parts left to be cast, and I really want an actress for Part No. 1, but the producer doesn't "get" her talent and wants someone else. I'll say, "Yes, your choice, she'd be good too. Let me think about that." But I still want the person I want. Then he'll say, "What about this actor for the other part?," maybe a less important one. "Let me sleep on that," I'll say. Then the next day, I'll come in and suggest an actor for Part No. 2 that I'm pretty sure the producer won't like, but I'll fight for him a little, until I'll say, "The actor you want. Are you sure that he's right?"But, he might feel at a disadvantage. No one's ever really sure. I've only been sure sure once, which was when I saw Amanda Plummer for "Agnes of God." And, interestingly, after Amanda had been cast, I had to sit through several months of the part of the Mother Superior being offered to the wrong people and doing whatever I could to derail those offers, because I knew Geraldine Page should play the part; but at the time, her stock was low, and it was not until Lee Remick was hired for the psychiatrist (good for box office) that I could sweep away all the others and get Geraldine the part. And then it didn't work out with Lee. Liz Ashley came in and was terrific, and Geraldine and Amanda were nominated for Tonys, and Amanda won.The most important thing a director does is choose: designer, composer, lighting. And the actors. And directors have differing ways of choosing actors. Some do it by readings and auditions. They're okay in a wayin the theater more than moviesbecause you get a chance to see what the actor's voice is like and how at ease, or not, the actor seems to be on stage. But what I really like is just talking to the actor, maybe trying to get over his nervousness, and then learning something about the human being: where he comes from, why he wants to be in this grueling racket, and what he sees in the part. I always think the working relationship with an actor starts at the first handshake. A reading doesn't tell me that much, because an actor might be good but make the wrong stab at the character at the beginning. And anyway, you don't know if it works or not till you've done it. Rehearse, make mistakes, go in the wrong direction (and that can be important because of what you'll learn), then get back on course again. And I've found, over the years, with my "talking" method that I've made the right choice many more times than the wrong one. Now, go back to me and the producer. I'll say, "Why don't you want this actress for Part No. 1?" And he'll say, "Blah-blah-blah." I've already given him the actor he wanted for Part No. 2, so when I say, "I really want this actress because blah-blah-blah," he's obliged to say, "Yes, I see what you're saying." "Sleep on it," I'll say. And, usually, the next day, after a little more stubbornness from me, I'll have got the person I want for what was the more important part. I may have really preferred another actor for Part No. 2 but may have had to sacrifice him for what was more important to me. That's "horse-trading." An actor may be talented and imaginative but sometimes lose a part for reasons not to do with any of his gifts.Good luck to you all. Michael Lindsay-Hogg's memoir, "Luck and Circumstance," is in bookstores now. In it, among other things, as well as talking about his time working with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the director discusses the casting process for the television series "Brideshead Revisited." James McAvoy talks X-Men: First Class sequel ideas

Total Film recently sat down with the new Professor X, James McAvoy, and naturally we grilled him about the potential of a sequel to X-Men: First Class. When we asked him if he'd be up for a follow up to Matthew Vaughn's mutant prequel, McAvoy told us, "I'd be up for it. But the truth is I'm contractually obliged to be up for it because they made us all sign multiple picture deals!"But does he have any idea where the story will go, following on from the ending of First Class?"I've spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can't tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story. One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films where the X-Men are the good guys, Wolverine's figuring out who he is and Magneto is the bad guy."This was a completely different thing. Magneto wasn't a bad guy, we were friends. We're now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we've got to try to be cleverer than that."For more from James McAvoy, get the new issue of Total Film Magazine, which hits newsstands on Thursday 27 October 2011!To subscribe to Total Film Magazine, click here. You can now read Total Film magazine on iPhone and iPad via Apple Newsstand! To find it on the UK App Store, click here. Adam Lambert Enlists Earth Rodgers for completely new Album (Video)

Earth Rodgers is everywhere nowadays, from your local book store, in which the-released memoir, Le Freak: An Upside Lower Story of Family, Disco, and Future, can be a hot item, for the NY Occasions, with a NY City studio where he and Adam Lambert have discovered their groove.our editor recommendsMadonna's Early Diva Days, Riveting Tales of Disco, Drugs and 80s Excess Highlight Earth Rodgers' Memoir Adam Lamberts Second Album Slated for First Quarter Release The Two are actually purchasing and selling tweets for the now comes video in the The The American Idol Show Show alum as well as the guitar great and super-producer working out a lick around the track possibly destined for Lambert's forthcoming second album -- although moderate to be able to "safeguard the integrity in the song" (see clip below). But even if we don't know very well what this passionate jam appears like, one factor we could deduce is always that a Rodgers-Lambert collaboration gets the makings from the special pairing. Ultimately, Rodgers has produced most likely probably the most seminal records in the seventies and eighties, including Diana Ross' Diana, Madonna's As Being A Virgin, and Let's Dance by David Bowie, who's among Lambert's own idols. Q&A: RCA Records' Peter Edge and Tom Corson on Why the Label Cut lower which is Devote The brand new the new sony's Large Picture Indeed, Rodgers themselves tweeted, "I really wouldn't say it whether or not this weren't true-Working w Adam Lambert was most likely probably the most organically perfect jams I've had since Bowie." Along with his own band Chic, Rodgers introduced the disco hit "Le Freak" all over the world, after which aided Sister Sledge perform the same thing goes with "We are Family" and Diana Ross with "I'm Being Launched," a sound lesson Lambert can most certainly get behind. Undoubtedly the two had plenty to gab about, with Rodgers' stupefying tales of eighties excess, genuinely chronicled within the new book. He's presently fighting prostate cancer but remains incredibly active, as his blog shows. For the fact Lambert remains recording when he's due to to create single as soon as the next month, it states what RCA Records leader Tom Corson told The Hollywood Reporterin September, the album was moved back "because the creative process remains unfolding." Oscar Index: Could It Be Feb Yet?

Welcome to week five of Movieline’s 2011-12 Oscar Index — week five! Already! We’re entering the 2nd month of the sucker, and our researchers and also the Institute for that Advanced Study of Kudos Forensics remain working hard discovering new hints and implications every day. Well, its not all day. OK, like, perhaps a couple occasions per week. So what can I say to you? It’s still early! Let’s possess a glimpse in the latest — if light — movement now. [Click on the graphs for full-size images.] The Key 10: 1. War Equine 2. The Artist 3. The Descendants 4. Moneyball 5. J. Edgar 6. The Assistance 7. Night time in Paris 8. The Ides of March 9. My Week With Marilyn 10. Very Noisy and extremely Close Outsiders: The Lady Using the Dragon Tattoo, The Adventures of Tintin: The Key from the Unicorn Mess, Tailor, Soldier, Spy The Tree of Existence, Harry Potter and also the Deathly Hallows After a week ago’s belabored (re)statement of purpose that virtually nobody read, rather homing in around the graphs as some kind of subjective dream scenario (yes, I truly, really must see War Equine leave with everything else, please, nothing will make me more happy than more lugubrious Spielberg-ian Oscar bait devoured with a self-satisfied couple of blue-haired Hollywood shut-inches), I’m just likely to cut to the chase this time around around: The Artist is an extremely, excellent film that gained a pleasant profile boost a week ago within the closing weekend from the NY Film Festival and because the Audience Award champion out in the Hamptons Film Festival. (It overshadowed The Descendants at both occasions — though not by much — and added another award in the Chicago Worldwide Film Festival too.) A cluster of commentators reiterated its status because the current film to conquer, although the experts aggregated at Gold Derby with each other get it topping out at fifth within the race. Possibly the greater intriguing discussion now concerned just the number of Best Picture nominees there'd came Jan. 24. Based on Steve Pond’s information, the Academy will choose seven: Yes, it’s imaginable that 10 films could finish track of the 250-or-so votes required to land around the Best Picture slate. With nearly 6,000 voters qualified to cast ballots, that number shouldn’t be unreachable. But because of the way votes is going to be disseminate among a large number of films, and also the limited chance to create a move following the initial count, I suspect the amount of nominees is going to be nearer to five rather than 10 most years. The Academy, in the end, revealed an important bit of information if this introduced the modification: PricewaterhouseCoopers returned and analyzed ten years price of voting, and came to the conclusion when the brand new system have been essentially, it might have led to many years of five, six, seven, eight and nine nominees. But never annually of 10. Sasha Stone, meanwhile, sees a bit more expansion, using the Artist, The Descendants, The Assistance, Night time in Paris and Moneyball locked in to the running without a doubt along with a couple of unseen prestige photos trying out the rest of slots — however many who means: The ultimate quantity of Best Picture nominees will most likely be between 5 and 9. 5% of 6000 is 300. That's a higher estimate of the number of ballots is going to be completed. Likely, we’re searching in a lower miracle number. To achieve that quantity of 300 you can either need to have a film with enormous support (like 20% of # 1 votes) otherwise have sufficient votes heading into round two that, using the partial votes remaining in the 20% ballots to achieve 300. […] I’ll most likely finish up predicting 9 nominees. Unless of course one of these simple films that hasn’t yet been seen drops off. There's wiggle room for a couple of surprises, however they’d need to be really stunning, passionate ones. Talking about which, a couple of options came about using the Adventure of Tintin (which gained raves from its London premiere) as well as Harry Potter and also the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which Scott Feinberg reviews includes a major honours push forthcoming from Warner Bros. We’ve been hearing this for several weeks, obviously, also it’s a significant lengthy shot underneath the rule needing 5 % of first-place votes for any nomination. But stranger everything has happened. Wait. Really, no they haven’t. Anything colossally fucking strange compared to second installment from the seventh film inside a fantasy franchise according to best-selling youthful-adult books being nominated for the best Picture has ever happened within the good reputation for the Oscars. Ever. The Key 5: 1. Steven Spielberg, War Equine 2. Alexander Payne, The Descendants 3. Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist 4. Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar 5. David Fincher, The Lady Using the Dragon Tattoo Outsiders: Stephen Daldry, Very Noisy and extremely Close George Clooney, The Ides of March Bennett Burns, Moneyball Woodsy Allen, Night time in Paris Tomas Alfredson, Mess, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Tate Taylor, The Assistance How you can enliven what's shaping as the worst category of the season? What about a game title? Without any clues to take except the graph above, guess the date which this story went at Gold Derby: “Oscarologists split between company directors Spielberg and Payne.” Only 18 more days to visit, everybody!

The existence story of the British math wizzard, logician, cryptanalyst, computer researcher, criminally punished homosexual, and tortured soul who committed suicide when you eat a cyanide-laced apple has everything. (Apparently, Jobs named his company “Apple” like a tribute to Turing.) “Think The King’s Speech with no huge beneficial ending,” a resource informs me. I’m told that CAA’s J.P.
